Slab inventory management is the process of keeping the physical material, its digital information and its availability aligned. Start with consistent identities and measurements, then define how your team updates records, checks stock and handles reservations. A catalog becomes more useful when these operational responsibilities are clear.

Start with an identity the warehouse and sales team can share

Choose a consistent material code for each item or group you track. Record the dimensions, thickness and finish you actually measured, then attach photos that represent that material. Decide how your process distinguishes a block, bundle and individual slab.

This step avoids ambiguous conversations about two similar materials. A useful record lets a colleague connect the catalog entry to the stock they are looking at, even if the person who added it is unavailable.

Keep media and supporting documents with the record

Organize photos, videos, mapscans and certificates around the material identity. When information arrives from a supplier or is captured in the yard, check which record it belongs to before adding or sharing it.

Use a short review process for new stock. Missing dimensions, unclear photos or inconsistent codes are easier to correct before the record becomes part of a buyer’s selection. This is a recommended operational process, not an automatic inspection guarantee.

Define how you check physical and digital stock

Agree who checks that your records still match the material in the warehouse. QR codes can help identify the relevant iBlocky record at the rack. A physical check and a software status change are different actions, and both need an owner.

Decide how the team communicates material that moves, is reserved or is sold. Use synchronization appropriate to your plan: Elite includes real-time synchronization, while Pro uses daily synchronization. Do not promise availability to a buyer from an outdated reference.

Make the buyer handoff part of the same process

Once the record is ready, share an individual material or a curated selection for the buyer’s project. An iBlocky material link opens without a buyer account and refers to current inventory information. Elite adds native WhatsApp and iMessage integration for sending from the platform.

Record the reservation or sale against the material after the conversation. For your first evaluation, follow one representative selection through this entire process: warehouse identity, digital record, buyer link and reservation. This reveals the handoffs your team needs to agree on.

  • Who creates and checks a material record?
  • Who verifies physical availability?
  • Who shares a selection and answers the buyer?
  • Who records and updates the reservation or sale?

Questions about warehouse workflow

What is the difference between a slab catalog and inventory management?

A catalog presents materials to buyers. Inventory management also covers identifying physical stock, maintaining records and keeping availability and reservations current. A connected workflow uses the same material identity for both.

Should every slab have the same record structure?

Use a consistent set of core fields such as identity, measurements and photos. Review how your process handles blocks, bundles and individual slabs before choosing the exact structure.

Can QR codes replace a physical inventory check?

No. A QR code can help identify the material’s digital record, but someone still needs to verify the physical stock and keep the information current.
